Father Focus Story: Marques Sumner, Midlands Fatherhood Coalition

Marques joined Midlands Fatherhood Coalition in his early twenties when he was seeking help obtaining court-ordered visitation for his five-year-old son and newborn daughter. He did not have a positive relationship with either of the children’s mothers at that time, and it made it difficult to communicate with them and get the time that he wanted as a father with his children.

Midlands Gives: Goal Met!

Community, board and staff members came together May 3rd to help us not only meet, but significantly exceed, our $10,000 Midlands Gives goal! With a $1,000 kick-off gift from long-time fatherhood champion, John Boudreaux, more than $10,000 was raised in just 18 hours to help us fund summer sessions of our Reality Check program for young men ages 16-22 and father-child literacy efforts.

SCCFF Cited as a Top Fatherhood Initiative in Florida Bill Analysis

As we celebrate 20 years of strengthening fathers, we are delighted our successes helped another state launch critical fatherhood programming. On Monday, April 11, Florida’s Governor, Ron DeSantis, signed landmark legislation to provide $70 million to establish a statewide fatherhood bill. Under the bill, the state Department of Children and Families will be directed to contract for the creation of the “Responsible Fatherhood Initiative.”

South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families President Announces Retirement

Patricia Littlejohn, president of the South Carolina Center for Fathers and Families, will retire in the summer of 2022. The Center is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System that works to reduce child poverty by ending father absence. Her retirement comes as the Center celebrates its 20th anniversary and commemorates serving more than 25,000 fathers across the state.
