Upstate program joins in team effort to help teen parents

On April 30, the Spartanburg Herald-Journal reported on a joint effort to help teen parents in the Upstate. Excerpts from the story:

An organization that strives to prevent child abuse and neglect is funding an effort to help teen parents....

Children's Trust of South Carolina has awarded more than $3 million in grants to organizations in four counties across the state. In Spartanburg, the Mary Black Foundation received nearly $900,000 that will go toward encouraging pregnant teens and teen parents to stay in school, improving their parenting skills and helping them become better connected to supportive services. ...

Hoffman said the grant funding will help strengthen existing programs and services. The Mary Black Foundation will bring together the Middle Tyger Community Center, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, all seven Spartanburg school districts, The Point Teen Health Center, the Upstate Fatherhood Coalition, Upstate Family Resource Center and Westgate Family Therapy to work with more than 500 young parents in the county....
