Welcome and thank you for visiting our site. Midlands Fatherhood Coalition is a collaboration of community agencies providing a support system for fathers and families. We provide services in Richland, Lexington, and Fairfield counties by way of the statewide fatherhood initiative coordinated by the SC Center for Fathers in Families.
Fatherlessness or children growing up without the active, positive involvement of a father in their lives, is a major epidemic in our communities and country. The Midlands Fatherhood Coalition is working to reverse this disturbing trend by addressing barriers both systemic and personal that prevent fathers from reach their potential as responsible fathers. Midlands Fatherhood Coalition seeks to curtail the growing trend of absentee fathers by positively impacting the lives of men, their children and families. Through our support services and commitment to changing the lives of low income families, we envision fathers being actively involved in all areas of their children's lives. The Coalition provides a place for fathers to fellowship with their children in a nurturing, positive, and interactive environment where self responsibility and healthy relationships are instilled.
Research findings consistently reveal that warm and affectionate fathers can help their children not only develop positive self-esteem, but also influence the development of their children's gender role behavior. Father involvement in the lives of their children is significant for both boys and girls. Research shows that all children are more likely to fair better when both parents are actively involved. Children who have absent fathers are more likely to be impoverished, drop out of school, become involved in drug and gang activity, enter the juvenile correctional system, become teenage parents, and have emotional and behavioral problems. Fathers who are present in the lives of their children often provide guidance that can help nurture their children's well-being.
We extend our gratitude to you for visiting us. By joining our efforts in advocating for responsible fathers, you will in turn help reduce the risk of children falling into the cycle of destructive behaviors which are related to father absence.
